BIPASHA BASU Actress On being nominated in the Best Actor in a Villainous Role category for the 49th Filmfare Awards

For an actress to be nominated in the ‘Best Actor in a Villainous Role’ category is quite a compliment.

I took up Pooja Bhatt’s Jism because it is a powerful role.
The role gave me a lot of scope to perform and satisfaction as an actress. It wasn’t the usual kind of role, in which the actress is just a pretty face in the film. I knew I was doing a villain’s role when I took it up, and portrayed it to the best of my ability.

Your hard work has shown in the success of Jism. Did it ever cross your mind that you would be nominated in this category?

No, when I’m doing a film, I don’t think about awards. Obviously, I want the film to do well and I would like to be appreciated as an actress. For me, the Filmfare nomination in itself is a great reward, and I’m happy with it.

If you were the judge and asked to select one from the remaining four nominees in your category, whom would you chose as the winner?

Maybe I’d select Irfan Khan and myself. My role was so different from the run-of-themill roles actresses do, and it has been well appreciated. And Irfan Khan has done a great job in Haasil. I’m also working with him in two films and I think he is a wonderful person and knows his job very well.

If one goes by the boxoffice success of the films in the fray, whom do you expect to win?

I don’t know whether I should answer this question! But I am certainly happy about my nomination. As for winning the award, I’ll leave that to the judges to decide.

If you win, how do you plan to celebrate?

That would be jumping the gun, wouldn’t it? I’d rather wait and see if I win the award first. Then I’ll think of celebrating!

For more log on to http://movies.indiatimes. com
